Criminal Division
General Felonies
The General Felony Division handles all felony prosecutions that are not assigned to specialized units, including, but not limited to, homicides, thefts, DUIs, drug possession, burglaries, robberies, and sexual assaults of adults. Our felony Deputy District Attorneys are dedicated to protecting the citizens of Merced County by seeking justice and the protection of crime victims.
General Misdemeanors
The General Misdemeanor Division handles all misdemeanor pretrials and jury trials. Misdemeanor offenses are crimes that are punishable by up to a year in county jail. The Merced County District Attorney’s Office is dedicated to ensuring that all crimes are appropriately punished.
Sexual Assault Unit
The Sexual Assault Unit prosecutes felony crimes of sexual molestation against children. The Unit is comprised of an attorney and an investigator who specialize in child abuse prosecution. Cases are handled in a vertical prosecution format where one Deputy District Attorney is assigned the matter at the time law enforcement submits the case to the District Attorney’s Office for review, and handles the case at all court appearances and hearings.
Juvenile Crimes Unit
The Juvenile Crimes Unit seeks to help those juveniles who can be helped and to punish those juveniles who deserve punishment. Juvenile proceedings are conducted in Juvenile Court to adjudicate violations of criminal laws by minors. A minor is defined as an individual who is under 18 years of age.
Los Banos Office
The primary objective of the Los Banos branch of the Merced County District Attorney’s Office is to prosecute all crimes occurring on the Westside of Merced County including, but not limited to, the communities of Los Banos, Gustine, and Dos Palos.
