Duties
Animal Control Officers
- Provide emergency transportation for injured stray animals
- Animal bite reporting / quarantine
- Pick up stray and unwanted animals, including contract cities
- Criminal investigations
- Livestock control
- License enforcement
Animal Care Specialists
- House and care for unwanted or stray animals
- Provide information / education to the public
- Assist with adoptions
- Euthanize and dispose of unwanted animals
- Vaccinate shelter animals
- Implant microchips as needed
Administration / Office Staff
- Provide support for the overall operation
- Schedule staff
- Training
- Order supplies and equipment
- Maintain financial and animal records and pay outstanding bills
County Veterinarian
- Provide surgical sterilization to adopted animals
- Veterinary services for animals in the shelter
- Resolve citizen complaints regarding animals
- Set animal traps as needed
- Assist other agencies as requested
- Emergency after hours on call
- Man and operate low-cost vaccination clinics
- Euthanasia
- Monitor animals under rabies quarantine or protective custody
- Shelter and ground maintenance / repairs
- Assist with surgical procedures
- Work with rescue groups and other organizations to place animals
- Medicate animals as needed
- Provide public information
- Receive calls for service and respond as needed
- Redeem, release, or adopt animals and charge the appropriate fees
- Schedule surgical appointments
