Duties

Animal Control Officers

  • Provide emergency transportation for injured stray animals
  • Animal bite reporting / quarantine
  • Pick up stray and unwanted animals, including contract cities
  • Criminal investigations
  • Livestock control
  • License enforcement

Animal Care Specialists

  • House and care for unwanted or stray animals
  • Provide information / education to the public
  • Assist with adoptions
  • Euthanize and dispose of unwanted animals
  • Vaccinate shelter animals
  • Implant microchips as needed

Administration / Office Staff

  • Provide support for the overall operation
  • Schedule staff
  • Training
  • Order supplies and equipment
  • Maintain financial and animal records and pay outstanding bills

County Veterinarian

  • Provide surgical sterilization to adopted animals
  • Veterinary services for animals in the shelter

  • Resolve citizen complaints regarding animals
  • Set animal traps as needed
  • Assist other agencies as requested
  • Emergency after hours on call
  • Man and operate low-cost vaccination clinics
  • Euthanasia



  • Monitor animals under rabies quarantine or protective custody
  • Shelter and ground maintenance / repairs
  • Assist with surgical procedures
  • Work with rescue groups and other organizations to place animals
  • Medicate animals as needed


  • Provide public information
  • Receive calls for service and respond as needed
  • Redeem, release, or adopt animals and charge the appropriate fees
  • Schedule surgical appointments
