Recreational Health

Pools, Spas & Water Recreation

The Merced County Department of Public Health, Division of Environmental Health is responsible for ensuring that all public swimming pools, spas, and other water recreation attractions are maintained and operated in compliance with State and local codes.

These codes include excerpts from the California Health and Safety Code, the California Code of Regulations, and the California Building Code. These regulations are intended to provide protection for the public against illness and injury while enjoying public recreational health facilities. Compliance is evaluated through inspections, both routinely and by complaint, and through plan review for new and renovated public facilities.
