Captain Greg Sullivan
Captain Greg Sullivan began his career in law enforcement as a Merced County Deputy Sheriff in August 1979. In March 1984, Captain Sullivan became a police officer for the Merced Police Department. In June 1985, Captain Sullivan was hired as a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent and was assigned to the Spokane, Washington Resident Office.
In June 1989, Captain Sullivan was transferred to the Barranquilla, Colombia Resident Office. During his time in Colombia, Captain Sullivan worked closely with the Colombia National Police in developing Maritime Smuggling and Intelligence programs targeting the North Coast of Colombia. Furthermore, Captain Sullivan completed temporary duty assignments in Ecuador and Bolivia in support of Operation Snowcap.
In June 1991, Captain Sullivan was assigned to the San Francisco Division Office as the Special Agent Recruiter and in 1992 was transferred to the San Francisco LSD Task Force. Captain Sullivan was re-assigned to the Fresno Resident Office in 1994 and worked methamphetamine laboratory investigations throughout California’s Central Valley.
In May 1996, Captain Sullivan was promoted to Group Supervisor at the San Jose Resident Office. While in San Jose, Captain Sullivan commanded the Heroin High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force. Captain Sullivan was transferred to DEA Headquarters in May 1999 and was assigned as an Inspector in the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR). In September 2001, Captain Sullivan transferred to the Fresno Resident Office as Resident Agent in Charge (RAC).
In May 2002, Captain Sullivan was promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) in the San Francisco Field Division. In September 2011, Captain Sullivan was assigned to the Sacramento District Office, where he managed DEA operations in 34 of California’s 58 counties. He had oversight of the DEA Sacramento District Office, Redding Post of Duty, Modesto Post of Duty, Fresno Resident Office, and Bakersfield Resident Office.
Captain Sullivan holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from California State University Fresno and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Golden Gate University, San Francisco. Throughout his career with DEA, he has received four exceptional performance awards and two DEA Administrator’s Awards.
In January 2013, Captain Sullivan retired from the DEA and was hired by the Merced County Sheriff’s Office as a Captain. Captain Sullivan was assigned the responsibilities of the Corrections Bureau, Court Security, and the Supervised Release Team (SRT). In September 2017, Captain Sullivan took over the responsibility of Administrative duties for the Sheriff’s Office.
