As a reminder, in the unincorporated areas of Merced County, the law requires all owned dogs and cats over the age of three (3) months to be vaccinated for rabies. Dogs of this age are also required to be licensed with animal service. If you have questions about licensing your dog, please contact Merced County Sheriff Animal Service at 209-385-7436 during our normal business hours. The shelter staff will be available to help you.
All dogs brought to vaccination the clinic must be on a leash or confined to a carrier. If your dog is difficult to control or un-socialized, it should be left in or near your vehicle. The veterinary staff will determine if your animal can be safely vaccinated. Cats are welcome but must be confined or restrained as indicated above. You may also purchase your license by mail if your dog has a current rabies vaccination. Please contact our office for details.
