Deputy Ricardo Torres and K-9 Marley

Deputy Torres and K-9 MarleyMy name is Ricardo Torres and I have been a Deputy Sheriff with the Merced County Sheriff’s Office for five years. Since 2019, I have been a part of the Supervised Release Team (SRT). While in SRT, I became interested in the K-9 Unit and began working as an agitator/decoy. In July 2020, K-9 Marley became my partner when I was selected to become a K-9 handler.

K-9 Marley is a 4-year-old Yellow Lab and has been a Deputy for three years. Her job with the Sheriff’s Office is to detect Narcotics and Media Devices during search warrants. She also assists SRT with compliance checks and the Merced County Correctional Facilities in locating illegal contraband. K-9 Marley frequently trains to maintain her sharp skills. While off duty K-9 Marley enjoys long walks and loves playing fetch nonstop. K-9 Marley is the first Media Detection dog in the history of the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.
