Pre-Registration

Pre-registration does not change the voting age, which is 18. Instead, it allows eligible Californians ages 16 or 17 to complete the online voter registration form providing sufficient time and opportunity to get ready to vote.

Pre-registration applies to California youth who are 16 or 17 and meet the following criteria:

The Registration Race

The Registration Race is a program to promote voter registration and pre-registration in Merced County High Schools that was implemented in 2019. We look forward to continuing this event in the future!

2019 Registration Race

Congratulations to our 2019 winner, Taylor Parmley from Los Banos High School and special thanks to 99 Rootz and all students who participated in our First Annual Registration Race.

In 2019, students who participated registered close to 500 students. They were recognized for their efforts by Assesor-Clerk-Recorder- Registrar of Voters Barbara J. Levey, U.S. Representative Jim Costa, State Senator Anna Caballero, State Assemblymember Adam Gray, and the Merced County Board of Supervisors.
