Extra-Help Paid Call Fire-Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
EMR is required to respond to emergency medical incidents and other emergency incidents as a member of a crew under the supervision the fire station manager and/or Incident Commander and may work under stressful conditions. This position does not allow emergency responders to function in an IDLH (Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health) atmosphere, and they may not function in any activity requiring full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as vehicle extrication. They may respond to fires and vehicle accidents with extrication in a support role only. This position requires a high level of judgment to ensure that public interests are safeguarded. Successfully completing all required training and meeting all standards is required within prescribed time periods to maintain Merced County employment as an EMR.
Extra-Help Paid Call Firefighter (PCF)
PCF is required to respond to fire and other emergency incidents as a member of a firefighting crew under the supervision of the fire station manager and/or Incident Commander and may work under dangerous or threatening conditions. The position requires the incumbent to work well with and live near others over an extended period of time. Incumbents are required to meet mental and physical agility standards and requirements following appointment. Successfully completing all training, along with meeting all mental/physical standards, is required within prescribed time periods to maintain County employment as an Extra-Help Paid Call Firefighter. This position requires a high level of judgment to ensure that public interests are safeguarded. The incumbent of this position operates in a protective service capacity. This position will be compensated 75 cents per hour above minimum wage.
