Fleet Services "Shop"
Managing Fleet Services is the responsibility of a Fire Captain, assisted by two heavy equipment mechanics. 70 emergency vehicles, including fire engines, water tenders, support vehicles, specialized equipment, and administrative vehicles, are serviced and repaired by our mechanics. Some of the additional duties that shop personnel are responsible for are:
- Performing preventive maintenance and safety checks on emergency response vehicles;
- Annual testing of fire pumps and vehicle emissions;
- Maintaining detailed records on emergency response vehicles, including all maintenance and repair records, cost of service, hours of service, accident reports and safety checklist;
- Assisting the department with procurement of new equipment, apparatus, and preparing new fire apparatus/vehicles for service, including order specifications.
