Lieutenant Steve Bassi
Lieutenant Steve Bassi was born in Merced, California and raised in Livingston California, He is a graduate of Livingston High School. Lieutenant Bassi was hired as a Sheriff’s Security Attendant by the Merced County Sheriff’s Office in 2007. Lieutenant Bassi served as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff while attending the police academy in Fresno, California. Lieutenant Bassi graduated from the police academy in 2008 and upon graduation was sworn in as a full-time Deputy Sheriff.
In 2009, Lieutenant Bassi joined the K-9 Unit at the Merced County Sheriff’s Office as an agitator and in 2010, he was assigned a dual-purpose K-9, K-9 Rocky. Both Rocky and Lieutenant Bassi worked patrol on various shifts at various offices. In addition to handling K-9 Rocky, Lieutenant Bassi became a field training officer for the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.
Lieutenant Bassi was promoted to Sergeant in 2017 where he was assigned as a Patrol Sergeant. In 2019, Lieutenant Bassi was assigned to both the Los Banos and Delhi stations as the administrative sergeant tasked with the oversight and responsibility of daily operations at each station. In 2020, Lieutenant Bassi was assigned as the Court Security Bureau Sergeant. Lieutenant Bassi worked with court staff to ensure the safety of judicial officers, officers of the court, and civilians at all court facilities in Merced County. Lieutenant Bassi also served as the Sergeant overseeing the K-9 unit.
In September 2023, Lieutenant Bassi was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Corrections Bureau. He oversees the Main Jail, Court Security Bureau, Axon Technology, Jail Training Program, Fleet Services, and the K-9 Unit.
Lieutenant Bassi has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Management and an Executive Juris Doctorate from Concord Law School at Purdue University Global. In addition, Lieutenant Bassi has successfully completed the FBI-LEEDA Supervisor, Command, and Executive leadership institutes and is a recipient of the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award.
