History

Red Ribbon Week activities began in 1986 as the result of the murder of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Agent assigned to a case in Mexico. Communities celebrate Red Ribbon Week to acknowledge Enrique's death and recommit to living lives free of substance abuse.
