CalWORKs

California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) is a program that provides cash aid and services to eligible California families in need. The amount of the family's monthly assistance payment will depend on a number of factors, including the number of people who are eligible and the special needs of any of those household members. The income of the family is considered in calculating the amount of cash aid the family will receive.

To be eligible, families must have a child(ren) in the home, who is deprived of parental support or care because of absence or death of either parent. Families that have both parents in the home, may be eligible when one parent is disabled, or when the primary earner is unemployed or is working less than 100 hours a month.

Caretaker relatives of children in need may also be eligible.
