Penalties

A misdemeanor is defined as a crime for which the maximum sentence is no more than one year in county jail.  Misdemeanor convictions can also result in fines or informal probation.  

Obtaining an Attorney

If you are charged with a misdemeanor and are unable to afford an attorney, the Public Defender’s Office may be appointed to represent you. It is important that you discuss your case with your attorney during all stages of the case to ensure the best possible level of representation.

Speaking with Your Attorney

If you have been appointed a Public Defender and you wish to discuss your case prior to your next court date, you may call the office to speak to your attorney.
