The Merced County Registrar of Voters would like to partner with Government/Civics teachers to educate your students on democracy, elections, and of course voting. Our plan is to participate in SOS. Alex Padilla’s designated High School Voter Outreach weeks in April by hosting a “Registration Race”. With your schools participation, we can engage and educate the youth of Merced on important topics.
Our department feels it is important to make learning fun, and would like to use this opportunity to engage students in a friendly competition between high schools. We will record points for each voter registration and preregistration that comes in from your school during the month of May. The high school that gets the most students to register will receive a certificate of recognition from the Merced County Board of Supervisors and be publicly recognized at their meeting.
To kick off the Registration Race, we are asking that each school select 2-4 students to attend a two-hour educational workshop hosted by our department. The workshop will take place on April 19th 2019 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The workshop will serve to educate the students on the history of voting, voter registration, and how to participate in The Registration Race. At the end of the workshop we will send your students back with a voter registration tool kit that will include voter registration cards and swag items to hand out to other students.
If you would like to participate please email Gabrielle Adkins, Elections Specialist at Gabrielle.Adkins@countyofmerced.com with your name, school and contact information.
