Historically, Los Banos and its surrounding cities have had a lack of community-based organizations, programs and other needed services to assist Probation clients. Because of this, Breaking Barriers was created and held a soft opening in March 2021.
A Probation Program Specialist manages and oversees facilitators and participants in the operation of Probation programs. It is a one-stop-shop for job readiness services and Leadership for Life programming, as well as group sessions focusing on engagement and outreach such as Tonia Hemme’s Paint Night, LGBTQIA+2S groups, and ACE Overcomers trauma-focused courses. BHRS continues to partner with Probation to house a Mental Health Clinician, Mental Health Worker and Peer Support Specialist.
Substance use disorder and mental health counseling services are offered in person and via tele-health. Additionally, Deputy Probation Officers work collaboratively with BHRS staff to perform home/crisis visits at least one day per week. Clients, their families, and the community are able to participate in services offered at Breaking Barriers.
This program is funded by SB 678 revenue.
