Guy Gary returned to his hometown of Los Banos to become the next Spring Fair Manager on April 11, 2022. His responsibilities include the overall management of the annual Merced County Spring Fair and fairgrounds facilities including planning, organizing and executing year round services. Supervising staff and volunteers; overseeing administrative functions; and maintaining the financial integrity of the operation while developing a fair program in accordance with applicable rules and regulations of the Division of Fairs and Expositions of the State Department of Agriculture.
He began his public service in 2000 with the California Department of Food and Agriculture. He served in many positions within the Animal Health Branch over the 22 years. Duties included prevention and eradication of animal diseases within California to protect producers, industry and public health.
Guy holds a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education with an emphasis in Animal Science from California State University, Fresno. He also attended Merced Community College and Kansas State University. He was born and raised in Los Banos where he attended grammar school all the way to graduation from Los Banos High School. He returned to the Los Banos area in 2010 working out of the Modesto District with CDFA.
He is very excited to return to his community in a role that got him involved as a youth in the agriculture field. Outside of the annual Spring Fair which is full of heritage and tradition, the facilities are utilized for other purposes throughout the year for the community. We offer grounds and building rentals for festivals, weddings, birthday celebrations and many other events. We also host several entertainment events throughout the year for the citizens of Merced County and surrounding areas. As of recent, the premise is also used for emergency situations such as evacuee shelter and vaccination site.
Guy is married to his amazing wife, Medina, which is an Administrative Assistant at the Los Banos Junior High. He has a daughter, Taylor, that recently graduated from California State University, Fresno and is employed with Foster Farms. His son Gavin is in the 8th grade at Creekside Junior High in Los Banos. The Gary family enjoys attending livestock shows, trap shooting events with Gavin throughout the state and quick weekend getaways when time permits.
