Nicole Silveira was elected as Merced County District Attorney in June 2022. She took office as the county’s chief law enforcement officer on January 3, 2023.
District Attorney Silveira joined the office in 2010 after working in civil practice and criminal defense in southern California. District Attorney Silveira has prosecuted cases involving child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, drugs, assaults, gangs and murder. She was promoted to Supervising Deputy District Attorney in 2016. She has conducted over 35 trials.
District Attorney Silveira is passionate about school attendance. She believes keeping children in school is one of the most important things the District Attorney can do to ensure a safe future for the community. In 2020, she collaborated with members of her office and various agencies to create the Supporting Attendance and Families through Education or “S.A.F.E” program. The program offers a one-day class that serves to educate parents on the importance of school attendance.
District Attorney Silveira was born and raised in Merced County. She attended Merced College, San Diego State University and received a juris doctorate from California Western School of Law.
