Marci Barrera


Marci R Barrera is one of two current Assistant County Executive Officers in Merced County since August of 2019. Her purview includes oversight of County Fire, Library, Public Defender, Spring Fair, Child Support, Registrar of Voters and a liaison role with the Assessor/Recorder/Clerk, Auditor-Controller, Probation, District Attorney, Sheriff/Coroner, and Treasurer-Tax Collector. She is also responsible for direct oversight and administration of Human Resources and Budget. The primary role of the Assistant CEO is to assist in the development, coordination and implementation of county-wide goals and objectives, policies, procedures and work standards to directly support the objectives of the County Executive Officer and the Board of Supervisors.

Marci has an extensive background in the private sector working in insurance, claims handling, Human Resources, and executive leadership capacities before coming to Merced County where she has worked for the past 17 years, serving in various capacities with the Human Resources Department. She has a robust Human Resources background having spent 4 years as the Human Resources Manager and 6 years at the Human Resources Director before taking the role as the Assistant County Executive Officer.

Marci has a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Management degree and has been an IPMA-HR Certified Professional for 14 years. She holds various leadership certifications through UC Davis, is a CSAC Credentialed County Senior Executive, and received a Master Certificate of Leadership from NACo High Performance Leadership Program.
